Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad.  Proverbs 12:25

What a difference a week can make.  Who knew that this time last week that within a few days life would be so much different.  We are now avoiding gathering together as we work together to fight the spread of COVID-19.  While we cannot gather together as the church, we certainly don’t have to stop doing ministry!  As a matter of fact, I think God might use this time to push the church to be more creative and use technology to do even more ministry and outreach.  I have been encouraged by some of the ways people are trying to minister to others during these difficult days.  For example, Michael Morelli is writing letters to those in the nursing home.

As a church, we have been praying and planning as to how we can continue to make disciples, minister to the needs of the church, and even reach out to our community during these uncharted days.  We will try to communicate to the church in every way possible (phone calls, emails, Facebook, and website).  Beth has been providing children resources via the “Burlington Baptist Children’s Ministry” Facebook page.  Jeff has been having some video messages and will be connecting with students via Zoom.  I will be regularly recording some announcements and Bible studies throughout the week.  In addition, we will be having a meeting with our Lifegroup leads via Zoom on Thursday evening and encouraging some of our life groups to utilize Zoom to meet with their groups.  There is so much technology now that allows us to interact without gathering together in one particular place.  Most people don’t like change, but we might as well seek to make the best of current conditions and once we learn how to do something we are often surprised at how easy it is to use.

If you would like to do some ministry, we invite you to call the church office and ask for a copy of our shut-ins and nursing home folks.  It would be a great time to send them a card/note or just call and check on them.  We would also like to encourage you to utilize some of the many Bible study videos that are available on Rightnowmedia.com.  As a church, we pay for a subscription for this resource to be available for all church members and we would be glad to get you set up with an account to be able to use.  Once you get a log in, you can search Bible study topics that you might be interested in.  I thought that as a church we might go through a study by Matt Chandler called
“Psalm 23”.  If you want to participate, get a Right Now Media account and start watching the first session.  Maybe we can start this on Monday and we can even plan on having a Facebook live discussion on Monday evening.  My email address is hbest@burlingtonbaptist.org and my cell number is 859.613.8690 if you have any question or suggestions.

Please know that we miss seeing you and gathering together for worship and encouragement.  We are praying for you and if you need something, please let us know.  We have heard from many who are available to help meet needs that may arise.  We can all pray and we seem to have a little extra time for prayer.  Pray for President Trump, Vice-President Pence, Governor Beshear, and all those in positions of leadership who are leading the battle against this Covid-19 virus.  Please don’t forget to pray for our missionaries (specifically Kyle and Molly) during these days.
