Christ is King

In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs. Hebrews 1:1-4

This week our study takes us to the book of Hebrews. While being one of the most heavily debated books in the New Testament, it remains one of my favorites as it serves as a thorough overview of the true meaning of the Gospel and the confirmed Deity of Jesus. It also serves as a strict lesson in understanding and true meaning of faith.

The actual author of this book is unknown, but there are glaring similarities to other New Testament authors that you will notice in the text. I believe that author identification is often an important aspect to the full understanding of writing and of deriving its intent, but as we look at this book, we will uncover that the message can stand on its own merit. The author's message to the Hebrews provides a wealth of knowledge for all of those who study it.

This book begins with the prominence and importance of the message that Christ taught in His time on earth. Those who studied the Old Testament text were used to God speaking through the Prophets. That idea had to be readjusted as Christ, who is fully God, spoke directly to us, and still does through the Holy Spirit. He also speaks to His Deity, as he emphasizes that he is the radiance, or the physical manifestation of God the Father. And along with those teachings, He provided the payment for the sin of mankind, emphasizing His claim of being the promised Messiah that so many of their kindred have denied.

Have a great week!  ~Danny
