But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.   James 1:22

Easter is usually the most encouraging Sunday of the year for most churches and pastors.  Not only do we get to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord, often our churches are full of both members and guests.  We try to get as much information from our guest as we can so that we can follow-up with them.  We often come back the following week expecting a large portion of the folks who showed up for Easter to be there and we are often disappointed.  We can be frustrated or we can be thankful for the opportunities we had to sow gospel seeds, meet new people and hopefully we will be able to connect with a few of those guest that attended on Easter.  If you know somebody who joined us on Easter, please let us know so we can make sure to thank them for their visit and try to make a connection with them.

I am planning on starting a new sermon series this Sunday called “Refocus.”  Most of the sermons will go along with the “Red Letter Challenge” that several of our Bible study groups will be participating in starting this week.  This past Sunday, I had discussions with people about how to have assurance of salvation, baptism, and how to become a church member.  We will be having a “Next Steps” class this Sunday at 12:00 for anybody who would like to know more about Burlington Baptist, or discipleship and ministry opportunities.  I’ve decided to do a message on the ABC’s of Christian living this Sunday and talk about how to have assurance of your salvation, being baptized as a believer, and being committed to a local church.

There are several opportunities for ministry, missions, and outreach coming up this summer.  We are going to try to take a team to western Kentucky once a month to help with rebuilding and clean up from the December tornados.  We had a great time in April and want to send more help.  We are going to plan on having a couple opportunities to go to Morgan Utah and help Morgan Grace Church this summer and fall.  The church planters for this church will be coming sometime soon to share with us some of the many ways we can assist them.  There are opportunities to help with VBS in June.  World Changers will be the week of July 17th and will be in Chattanooga this year.  Kentucky Baptist are taking teams to Poland once a month to help with Ukrainian refugees (Jeff will be leading a team in May).  We will be having several opportunities to take the gospel to every home this summer.  We are always in need of more volunteers for our First Impression teams (greeters, minglers, and starting point desk).  If you would like to learn more about any of these opportunities, please call the church office and we would be glad to help you.

We have had lots of distractions the past few years and hopefully we can get refocused on the mission and work Christ has for BBC.  We want to invite our friends and neighbors to “come and worship.”  Hopefully they will be welcomed, will hear the gospel, and follow Jesus.  Then we want them to “stay and connect.”  We want people to get connected to a small group Bible study and build relationships within the church.  Then, we want people to “go and serve.”  We want them to go out sharing the gospel and to find an area of service.  We want to help you get refocused and take another step in your spiritual journey.

The resurrection not only makes a difference on Easter, it has changed our lives.  It is time to go and tell the good news.  Let us know how we can help you be a witness for Jesus!!!
