Psalms 46: 9-11
He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth. He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the shields with fire. He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.
In the modern world that we live in, it is often very difficult to find fleeting moments of peace and quiet. When these moments appear, it is often as a small reprieve from the impending chaos that will certainly follow. Through the hustle and bustle of daily life, it is important to remember two valuable ideas.
The first of these is that the worry you have could have been inflated due to an outside influence. It only takes five minutes of watching any of the National news outlets to get my mind into a state that is troubled and uneasy. The answer can be as simple as turning off the TV. Finding positive influence in a devotional or God’s Word can provide the quiet that is necessary for the health of your thoughts and your heart.
The second idea is a promise that can quiet even the loudest noise, and that is the one that is promised in Psalms 49. When the situation arises that the things of this life become too big for us to bear, we are reminded to, Be still, and remember that He is God. He can overcome any problem, calm every situation, and quiet any storm. He promises to provide solace and rest even in circumstances in which we find ourselves the most vulnerable. So as the world around us speeds by, we must reflect on this promise, slow down, and just Be Still.
Have a great week!
