And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. Gal. 6:9

Last week I got to spend a few days in eastern Kentucky (Whitesburg area) helping in the aftermath of the historical flooding experienced throughout much of eastern Kentucky. Many of you have friends, family, or other connections to that part of the state. I am thankful that BBC is a church that loves to help, serve and minister to others in their times of need. I have been blessed to see so many of you bringing in supplies (paper towels, cleaning supplies, water, diapers, fans, etc.) the past two weeks. Greg and Laura took a truck load of supplies to various areas in eastern Kentucky on August 2nd. Greg and Dan took another truck full down on August 9th and there is already another load ready to go. I have also been overwhelmed with the number of gift cards we have been able to take with us to eastern Kentucky. Thank you so much for your generosity and love for our fellow Kentuckians who are dealing with this destruction.

We will have lots of opportunities to love and minister to people in eastern Kentucky in the weeks and months to come. If you are interested in helping with disaster relief in eastern Kentucky, please let us know as there will be teams feeding, offering laundry and showers, and doing mud outs and other forms of ministry throughout the month of August. We will start working on taking teams down in September to start helping with the rebuilding efforts. We still have teams helping in western Kentucky in August and September. BBC has raised their mission assistance to another level this year as so many of you have given a week or two or three to help others rebuild their homes and lives. Thank you!

A couple of weeks ago, I discussed 4 types of church members and how we can identify them and help them take the next step to finding fulfilment and encouragement in serving. I specifically wrote about how we need to educate those classified as “Sitting – Passive” so that they realize God has a purpose for their lives and has gifted them to serve His church. The second group are those who are involved and willing to serve but could be classified as “Trying – Frustrated.” They are serving in some capacity but often feel ineffective and frustrated. They may be serving in areas where they are not gifted or have had no training. These are people who might be in the wrong seat on the bus.

We want to start by helping these members find their area of gifting or where they can be most effective in their service. Some people are working in an area they enjoy but need to be better equipped and trained. We want to help disciple people and give them the tools and resources they need to succeed. We have some newer believers who are willing to serve but need some additional Biblical teaching.  There are discipleship tools (like Right Now Media – Rightnowmedia.com) available and we need to do a better job of communicating about these tools. There are online Bible courses available for those who want to go deeper in their Bible knowledge and doctrine. We will be working to identify those who need to be better equipped for ministry. If you are serving in some capacity and feel like you need more training or better tools to be effective, please let us know. Again, we have a responsibility to equip the saints for the work of ministry (Eph. 4:11-12).

We are looking forward to a fruitful fall at BBC. If you want to be apart of what God is doing, please let us know and we will help you find a place to serve and help equip you for that area of service. Let us pray this week for the folks in eastern Kentucky who are dealing with the flooding.
