For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions.   2 Tim 4:3-4

Daniel was a young man trying to live in accordance with his religious convictions in the pagan and idolatrous culture of Babylon.  A young lady talked to me after our Daniel 1 service and lamented the difficulty of holding a Biblical worldview in the culture today.  I think we would all agree that the sexual, bisexual, homosexual, and transgender revolutionaries are pushing their sinful agendas faster than ever before.  The LGBTQ+ agenda is to not only normalize but to celebrate sinful lifestyles.

In the past few weeks, as some new episodes of TV series have aired, I have noticed their intentional actions to normalize all sexual lifestyles.  Last night’s episode of FBI had a subplot to move the audience to compassion for a Baptist pastor who was struggling with homosexual temptations.  FBI: Most Wanted has one of their female characters who is married to another lady who is pregnant.  One website says, “FBI: Most Wanted shows you can be inclusive – even if you’re busy hunting down criminals.”  Last year, one of the main characters in SWAT was involved in a threesome relationship with a girlfriend and the girlfriend’s previous boyfriend.  These kinds of relationships, while sometimes complicated, are all presented as very normal and to be desired.

Yesterday, the headlines included a story claiming that the “new Superman comes out as bisexual in an upcoming comic.”  Now they are coming after our superheroes.  The headlines from this past weekend included a story about Gavin Newsom, the Governor of California, who signed a bill “mandating gender-neutral toy aisles for large companies.”  The progressives are trying to make it a bad thing for a boy to want to play with boy toys (like tractors, cars, wrestlers, and bulldozers) and a girl to want to play with dolls and the sorts.

I share a few of these recent headlines just for us to acknowledge that we are living in chaotic times and it is going to be more and more difficult for our young people to live out their faith with convictions.  As the church, we must recognize the challenges and do all we can to equip our children to understand God’s good designs (for genders, for marriages, for relationships, for work, and for morality).  It is not enough to say, “The Bible says homosexuality is wrong.”  We have to go a step further and share God’s design for Biblical marriage and why His design is best.  God is our Creator and He has given us instructions (in the Bible) that are for our good and His glory.

As we prepare ourselves for the coming battles, I want to encourage you to attend the Martin’s workshop on Family Worship this Sunday morning at 9:30 in the worship center.  Jonathan and Emily Martin will be with us this Sunday (17th) to lead our worship times and also to help equip and encourage couples, families, and individuals in having some family worship time.  Family worship can help a family grow together in their relationship with the Lord and with one another.  Family worship has never been more important for our students as they often spend much of their time in a Christless culture that wants to tear down their faith and give them an incorrect view of God.  (You don’t have to have children to have family worship.  Couples of all ages should regularly have some time to worship God together.)

Finally, I would love for you to be praying for me next week (Oct. 17-20) as I will be preaching revival at Mackville Baptist (Mackville, KY).  Mackville is my hometown and Mackville Baptist, like so many churches in small towns, has experienced significant decline the past 30-40 years.  They have very few young people and don’t seem to be doing much to reach their community.  I have been struggling with how best to encourage and challenge them in these four nights of revival.  I know that God can accomplish His purposes and I ask you to pray that He might graciously use me in some way to help them experience a time of revival and revitalization.  I sure appreciate your prayers!
