Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. Matt.9:37-38

I want to invite you to join us (Burlington Baptist) for 40 Days of Prayer as we kick off an initiative to get the gospel to every home in our community.  We are joining with lots of Kentucky Baptist churches in an effort to get the gospel to all of the 1.7 million homes in Kentucky.  On any given Sunday (before COVID-19), more than 3.6 million Kentuckians would not have been found in any kind of church across Kentucky.  Approximately 81% of Kentucky is unchurched.  Therefore, we want to do all that we can to get the gospel to every home in close proximity to our church.  We are starting to work on plans now to pray, organize, equip, and deliver gospel packets this summer to as many homes as we can.  I hope you will help us with this effort.

“When Billy Graham was asked about the most important steps in preparing for an evangelistic outreach, he always answered that there were three things that mattered most: Prayer, prayer, and prayer.”  We know that God hears and honors the earnest prayers of His people.  Therefore, we want to proceed our gospel work with prayer.  We want to ask God to do what only He can do – bring a harvest.  We have “40 Days of Prayer” guides to distribute on Sunday to all who are willing to participate.  Each day there will be a devotional and prayer from one of our Kentucky Baptist Convention staff members.  You can also access the prayer guide online from our church’s website.  I hope that you will participate with us in praying for God’s hand and help in taking the gospel to the homes around us.

I also want to encourage you to continue to pray for your “one.”  I hope you are daily praying for somebody you know to be saved.  As you pray, continue to look for opportunities to have gospel conversations with him/her.  I would be glad to join you in praying for that person if you let me know their name.  Additionally, the front of the prayer guide has a place for each of us to identify FRANs we want God to save.  FRAN stands for friends, relatives, associates, and neighbors.  Let’s start praying for specific neighbors that might not be saved or are not active in any church.  Pray that God would prepare their hearts to hear the gospel, that God would open doors for you or someone to have gospel conversations with them, and that God might draw them to saving faith.

This has been an exciting year for our church as we have seen many saved and added to our church.  We had our 13th baptism this past Sunday and have a few to be baptized in coming weeks.  I got to baptize my “one” and now I have a couple more I’m asking the Lord to save.  God has been sending us lots of Guest each week.  I’m super excited about this effort to take the gospel to every home.  I know that God blesses the prayers from His people and I expect Him to bless our gospel efforts.  I want to ask you again to plan on participating in this effort (through prayer, packing, and distributing materials).  You don’t even have to wait until Sunday to get started praying.  Join me in praying now.

Lord, send us laborers for the harvest.  Lord, hear our prayers for the lost around us.  Lord, prepare the hearts of our neighbors, equip Your people to share, and draw many to faith.  We want Your church to reach our community for Your glory.  In Jesus’ name, amen.
